The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Guided Hiking Tour Around the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire
Whernside 736m, Ingleborough 724m, and Pen-Y-Ghent 694m
This is undoubtedly the classic challenge of the Yorkshire Dales. The walk is approximately 25 miles in length with an elevation gain of over 1000m. Starting at Horton in Ribblesdale, the walk takes you on a superb circular of the hills. It is always fulfilling! Some people aim to complete this challenging trip in 12 hours. If that’s what you’d like to do we’ll be with you all the way.
Doing the 3 peaks for charity?
Many people walk the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise money for charity. Most charities have sponsorship packs that will help support you – including offering a sponsorship form to track fundraising. If you don’t receive this, Lost Earth Adventures can send you one of our generic forms. For more details, including fundraising tips, visit our charity challenges page.

We recommend and can provide support vehicles for large groups but for smaller groups it is more economical to rely on the taxis and trains in the area.
If a member of the party cannot or does not want to continue at any point there are a number of opportunities to exit the route as we pass through 2 villages along the way. If you wish to complete this challenge successfully we definitely recommend that you are reasonably fit and that you are able to carry a light daypack with you for the duration of the hike. If you feel you’ve had enough; at 1/3rd of the way round the route crosses a road at Ribble Head, a train is available here to take you back to the start and is about £3. At 2/3rds of the way round, the route crosses the road again and a taxi is possible from here for around £20. You could also get a friend to pick you up while you wait there in the cosy pub.
If you are absolutely intent on doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in under 12 hours then getting a private guide is recommended. We do have open group events available for people that want a fast time as well as those that prefer a slower pace, be sure to select the event that suits you best when you book if choosing an open group event.
