For novice hikers or those that want to explore further beyond the beaten path, there are so many stunning routes to the summit of England’s highest mountain. Some remote, long and very quiet and other’s short and easy. Whatever route you choose, you’re going to leave with memories of a lifetime.

Wasdale

8.5km Round Trip, 877m Ascent, 4-5 hours
Difficulty level: Fair / Moderate
This is the shortest route up to the summit of Scafell Pike. It heads straight up from the northern edge of Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, along the well-developed rocky trail all the way up to the top. Views down to the sparkling waters of Wastwater and the dramatic crags dominating the skyline behind are enough of an excuse to stop and catch your breath!

Corridor Route

14km, 937m Ascent, 6-7 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate
Starting at the little hamlet of Seathwaite, nestled in the Borrowdale Valley, this route includes some more challenging terrain than the Wasdale route. A real highlight of the day is traversing along the great bouldery flanks of Great End and Broad Crag on the famous Corridor Route.

Langdale

20km, 1030m Ascent, 8-9 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate / Hard
The route from Langdale is longer than the other options, but the ascent is much more gentle. The views are simply incredible, and the paths can be quieter than the alternatives. This alone gives the route a sense of calm, making it a wonderful way to approach the summit. Some difficult terrain will still be crossed, and the boulder field we cross to reach the summit requires care.
