Beginner Course – Half Day | Full Day | 2 Days

Beginner Course
New to climbing? Find out what it’s all about in our introductory rock climbing course.

Fun and informative, our guides will show you the ropes while offering their expertise for any questions you have.
This course will cover:

  • Warm up exercises and climbing stretches
  • Route choice. Choose the routes suitable for you
  • Climbing techniques. Find out about crimps, mantling and lay backs
  • Safe use of equipment, climbing knots and best belaying practice
  • Practical advice on purchasing equipment and advising on your next steps
  • Climbing terminology: know your aretes, slabs and gritstone!
  • You’ll also get guided up plenty of routes and have the chance to try abseiling

Scrambling Course – 1 Day | 2 Days | 3+ Days

Scrambling Course
Scrambling is the stepping stone between mountain walking and rock climbing. Use your hands to scramble up steep mountain lines.

Before we begin, we’ll ask you what you want to get out of the course.

This way, everything is tailored towards you. You can even learn to lead if you like. The course often covers:

  • Belaying
  • Communication and commands
  • Choosing the right route
  • Moving with a rope safely and efficiently
  • Protecting yourself and your partner
  • Rescues and retreating
  • Managing hazards
  • Gear placements
  • Anything else you’d like to learn
  • You’ll also get to climb at least one route and maybe more

Top Rope Climbing – Half Day | Full Day | 2 Days

Top Rope Course
If you want to eventually go climbing on your own, our Top Rope Climbing Course is an essential first step to becoming a master of the rock.

Gain experience over a half-day or full-day or test what you have learnt over two days.

This course is flexible to meet your needs. No previous experience is required. This course will cover:

  • Techniques and ways to improve your climbing
  • Safe and efficient belaying practice
  • Techniques and ways to improve your climbing
  • Safe and efficient belaying practice
  • Selecting suitable and safe anchors in many situations including: nuts, camming devices, spikes, blocks, threads, chockstones, trees and fixed equipment
  • Setting up top and bottom rope systems
  • Abseiling
  • Safe use of equipment, evaluating the condition of equipment and how to ensure appropriate care and maintenance
  • Interpreting guidebooks, climbing terminology, rock types and route grades
  • Basic emergency procedures and safety kit
  • Understand access rights and responsibilities
  • The history, traditions and ethics of UK rock climbing
  • Practical advice on purchasing equipment and advising on your next steps
  • You’ll also get to test out your anchors by climbing and abseiling on them!

Learn to Lead Course – 1 Day | 2 Days

This course is designed for those with the desire to lead climb on rock. You don’t need to have completed a course with us before, though this certainly helps with your progression.

Learn to Lead Course
This course covers:
  • Safe and efficient gear placement and removal
  • Explanation of the safety chain and fall factors
  • Types of lead climbing styles; sport, traditional (trad), single and double rope techniques
  • Build a rack, what to take on your ascent of the crag
  • Safe lead belaying techniques, setting up sound belay systems and belaying from the top
  • Climbing knots, rope care, coiling and organising tackle
  • Interpreting guidebooks effectively and choosing routes suited to personal ability
  • Safety considerations and rescues
  • Safe use of equipment, evaluating the condition of equipment and how to ensure appropriate care and maintenance
  • Practical advice on purchasing equipment and advising on your next steps
  • You’ll also get to climb some routes!
