Raft Building in Yorkshire, Peak District and Cumbria
The perfect team-building exercise for businesses, schools and more
Work in teams to plan, build and race a raft against your rivals using nothing but barrels, poles, rope and your own creativity.
Designing, constructing and racing a raft requires a great deal of teamwork and communication. You’ll learn specialist knots and structures along the way, using your resourcefulness and creative thinking to beat the other team. This is a super-fun activity, but it’s also very competitive. Don’t expect your rival team to help if your raft falls apart!
We offer raft building in Yorkshire, the Peak District and Cumbria close to the Lake District. Our sessions are ideal for any group size with any level of experience. Reckon your teamwork skills are up for the task?
Building a raft also builds self-confidence, trust in others and problem-solving. It gives participants time to reflect on what went wrong and what went right. Working together really is the key to success here.
Who can do raft building?
Everybody can try raft building. Since teamwork and communication is crucial, we think it’s especially ideal for:
We currently offer raft building in the following locations.
Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire Dales
Located near Ripon in North Yorkshire, Pateley Bridge is nestled off the beaten path amongst a glorious forest. Less than 30 minutes away from Harrogate and around an hour’s drive to Leeds and York, Pateley Bridge is especially ideal if you want to combine your raft building with canoeing or climbing, with the famous Brimham Rocks just a five-minute drive away.
Combs Reservoir, Peak District
Situated on this picturesque reservoir in the heart of Derbyshire’s rolling hills, this is a perfect location to get on the water. The reservoir feeds the Peak Forest canal and sits in a shallow valley between Tunstead Milton, Combs, Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is just 20 minutes from Buxton and 1 hour from Sheffield.
Killington Lake, Cumbria
Nestled between Kendal and Sedburgh in east Cumbria, Killington Lake offers some of the best rafting, kayaking and water sports activities in the Lake District area. Just 15 minutes from Kendal and around 30 minutes from Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales, it’s also just off the M6, perfect if you’re coming from further afield.

What you’ll need
Don’t worry, we don’t expect you to bring your own barrels. All equipment will be provided by us. We’ll also provide safety equipment for you to wear. This includes a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. Our qualified instructors will take care of everything else.
We can cater to any group size. We usually recommend teams of around 4-8 people. This gives everyone the chance to have their own input and also reduces the chance of capsizing your raft.
Children aged 7 and over are more than welcome to join in the fun raft building. For children under 7, please contact us and we’ll see if we can help. There are no upper age limits, so long as you are determined and like to have fun.
How long does it last?
Sessions usually last around 3 hours. This gives us the chance to think about how to build the raft, time to build it and time for the race at the end. If you’d like to incorporate other team building games or activities into your day, just let us know.
See below for our prices. Prices are per person, activities last for approximately 3 hours. If you’d like to combine other activities into your day, several days or full week, just contact us and we’ll provide a quick quote for your group.
