Pikey Peak Trekking Tour

Walk to Edmund Hillary’s Favourite View of Mt. Everest

A Short Trek Without Flying, Going to Base Camp or Extreme Altitude

£1195, Tour runs for 11 days – set departures and bespoke trips available

Pikey Peak Trekking Tour
This ‘off the beaten track’ trek to Pikey Peak perfectly blends quiet trails, fascinating culture and sweeping mountain vistas. It is a fantastic lower altitude alternative to the more challenging, busier trails of the high Himalaya without any compromise on your experience!

You will follow in the historic footsteps of Hillary and Tenzing’s approach to Everest Base Camp as they prepared for the first summit of the world’s highest mountain. As you watch the world awaken against the majestic backdrop of snow-capped mountain giants from atop Pikey Peak, there will be no question why Hillary declared this his favourite view of Everest! Also featuring in this spectacular panorama are the famous Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Manaslu and Annapurna, plus countless other mountains in the Everest, Annapurna and Langtang ranges.

Combined with immersing yourself in the local culture and experiencing the famously warm hospitality and vitality of the local Tamang, Magar and Sherpa people, this is a trip not to be missed!

Welcome to Nepal, let the adventure begin!

Trip Grading

Himalayan Sunset
This trip is considered to be moderate. This means that most people who are reasonably fit would be able to complete the trek without too much challenge. As with most things, a certain degree of fitness will make this trip more enjoyable. This trek is in a very remote area so it offers a great insight to the real Nepal and its culture but this means that the lodges are more rustic than the popular trekking routes and you will need to have a flexible and patient approach.
This is adventure trekking and so things will not always follow exact plans but you will have a good time as long as you like to experience the unexpected and enjoy real adventure. Please see the Pikey Peak itinerary page for details of the route.

As always on our treks there is plenty of staff and we can accommodate everyone's trekking pace. We appreciate that in a group there will be many different speeds of walker and we don't ever want you to feel like you are holding up a group or being held up. Having plenty of guides and porters allow for us to change itineraries and pace easily.

Travelling to Nepal

You will need a passport with 6-month’s validity and you will need to obtain a Nepalese visa. The easiest way to get the visa is to buy it on entry to Nepal with either dollars or any major currency but not Nepali Rupees. Currently the cost for a single-entry visa valid for 15/30/90 days costs US$25/40/100. You can buy a visa in advance from the Neplese embassy in your home country if they have a location there. It is more expensive than buying it on arrival in Kathmandu and it doesn’t always save you time when you arrive as it is random which queue is longer. You also have to risk sending your passport off and they may take it for several weeks. You will need to buy travel insurance for your trip which you can find out about here. You also need to visit your GP or travel health professional at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to check what vaccinations you need.

For more information about travelling safely and obtaining passports you can see more at the FCO know before you go Travel Aware Campaign.

“Extremely well organised and the guide (Krishna) and porter (Binod) were fantastic and made the trip one to remember. Krishna really went out of his way to ensure my safety and enjoyment of the trek. Richard, the principle in the firm personally oversaw the initial contact with the guide which made all the difference. I would thoroughly recommend Lost Earth Adventures." - Jim Ramshaw
