The Best Mountain Biking in Yorkshire
Get ready, saddle up and hold on tight as we offer you a guided mountain bike experience you will never forget!
Mountain biking in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales offers an exciting way to discover Yorkshire and find out for yourselves why in 2006 it was voted the most beautiful county in England. The land has long inspired writers and artists alike, and now we guarantee it will inspire you the same.
Routes vary in length and difficulty and there is something here that will test even the most adept rider and bring out the best mountain biker in all of you. Join us as we explore forests, ridges, peaks, valleys, Riggs and Dales in an area of unspoilt, outstanding beauty.
A day of mountain biking at Dalby Forest – Bike Hire Available
Yorkshire (or God’s Own Country as it’s rightfully known!) offers outstanding natural beauty and conjures images of the wild nature of the Yorkshire Moors, the undulating hills and steep valleys of The Dales or the craggy outcrops of the Peak District. However, another mountain biker’s paradise awaits in Dalby Forest!
The ever changing beauty of the woodland surroundings offer the perfect backdrop for some fantastic mountain biking suitable for all abilities. There’s a reason why Dalby Forest hosted the 2010 Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup and why they came back in 2011. The ‘Rigg and Dale’ landscape makes for an exciting day of mountain biking giving true meaning to the phrase ‘what goes up must come down’!
The four tracks cater for four different abilities and offer the option of both long and short trails. If you fancy a break at any point you can choose from catching your breath in the meadows, the pine forests which you may have noticed as you hurtled past, or at designated picnic spots. For beginners there are wide quiet roads to explore, or if you fancy more of a challenge there are some fast single track trails.
If you want to get your adrenaline pumping, your bike in the air or fancy something different than riding the trails, we’ll take you to the jump park gardens where you can show off your skills, try some new tricks or push your limits!
Lock your line and shred the berms, ride wood work and hit drop offs as big as you like, this is a mountain bikers paradise. Fly like a bird from the kickers in the park, learn to clear table tops with ease or just sit back enjoy the forest on a leisurely ride. Your guide will do the navigating, you just have to keep peddling, hang on and enjoy the ride!
Swainby – Bike Hire Available
Up high on the edge of the North York Moors, Swainby awaits. The surrounding landscape offers visitors the chance to experience a real taste of Yorkshire: dry stone walls, lolloping hills, purple heather, expansive moorland (and the odd sheep). We’d like to think that the whole area was created purely for mountain biking and when you arrive you’ll see exactly what we mean! The rumpled blanket of hills in front of you are just asking to be explored. Whilst we love the exhilarating and (occasionally hair raising) downhills, the views from the top make the climbs worthwhile!
There really is a mountain biking experience suitable for everyone at Swainby. Just tell us your ability and decide what type of day you’d prefer. Would you like a meandering amble through the forests and surrounding countryside maybe stopping for a pub lunch somewhere in the middle of beautiful peaceful English farmland as we cruise the wide jeep tracks? Or would you like to test your nerves with the wind on your face as we challenge more steep technical descents? The choice, really is yours. Swainby is our personal playground for the day!
We love Pateley Bridge, and not just because it has one of the oldest sweet shops in England. It is a beautifully picturesque market town nestled in the breathtaking, awe inspiring Yorkshire Dales. We have no doubt, that as soon as you arrive you’ll understand why it has been recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and like us, you’ll be inspired to explore.
The tranquillity of the town provides a perfectly base for us to reflect and take a moment before embarking on a thrilling day of mountain biking. We pass through game keeper’s country and can stop in their shooting lodge for our packed lunch or a country public house. As we explore this remote part of Nidderdale we pass the impressive Scar House reservoir, one of the last reservoirs built in the area and the massive feat that is the Scar House Dam. If the ride in itself doesn’t take your breath away the scenery is bound to. The variety of the cross country terrain available with fantastic downhill sections will put a smile on any bikers face.
For newcomers to mountain biking or families with younger children we have the perfect woodland location for a fun day out. There are plenty of optional obstacles to allow practice of mountain bike skills in a tranquil setting, cycling through gentle fields and woods with views of reservoirs and streams. Our passionate bike guides will provide comprehensive instruction to aid learning the skills of a mountain biker, so that you and your family can end the day feeling confident and eager for more trails.
We also lead rides in the Peak District as well as the Himalaya and South East Asia.
