From beginner to expert, there are so many exciting routes to the summit of this iconic mountain, some remote and beyond the beaten path, some airy and exhilarating and all stunningly beautiful. Whatever route you choose, you’re going to leave with some wonderful memories.

Pyg Track & Miner’s Track

8 Miles Round Trip, 800m Ascent, 4-6 hours
Difficulty level: Fair / Moderate
The most famous route to the summit, you will leave from Pen-Y-Pass and follow the Pyg Track as it winds its way up. The trail sits below the dramatic Crib Goch and above the pristine Glaslyn (Blue Lake), offering fantastic views at every point. The parking here is difficult, so we recommend either taking the Llanberis Path or using either a minibus/coach or the local and regular shuttle bus service.

Llanberis Path

9 Miles Round Trip, 970m Ascent, 5-7 hours
Difficulty level: Fair / Moderate
The most gentle incline up to the summit and only slightly longer than the Pyg/Miners, you’ll pass the impressive cliffs of Clogwyn Du’r Arddu – The “Dark, Black Cliff” and walk aloft the skyline ridge that dominates the Llanberis Pass, an area steeped in mountaineering history.

There’s lots of accommodation in Llanberis, the route’s suitable for large groups of all abilities and you can start right from the door of your hotel.

Watkin Path

8 Miles Round Trip, 1015m Ascent, 7-8 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate
A grand outing in one of Wales’ forgotten valleys, where overgrown remains of ancient villages conjure thoughts of a tranquil and distant past. Crystal clear waters tumble down the fells and blankets of heather rise up to the bases of craggy summits. It is the quietest way to the top of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa, and arguably the most beautiful!

Crib Goch

Difficulty level: Hard
Crib Goch is, without doubt, one of the most exciting ways to bag the summit of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa. It is a classic route, and is quite rightly considered by British mountaineers to be one of the finest ridge scrambles on our Isles. It is rated as ‘Grade 1’, the easiest grade of scramble, but is not to be underestimated. If you are up for a challenge, are confident with heights and have a sense of adventure, this is an incredible way to reach Wales’ highest summit.

As this ascent is classed as scrambling, you will need to hire a Mountaineering and Climbing instructor for the day.

Snowdon Horseshoe

Difficulty level: Very Difficult
If you want to really push your limits, you can complete the Snowdon Horesehoe: Combining the thrill of Crib Goch with additional peaks and another Alpine-ridge, this route will ensure you have an unforgettable adventure. From the summit of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa, you will continue on the rugged, high and exposed balcony route, to the twin peaks of Y Lliwedd.

As this ascent is classed as scrambling, you will need to hire a Mountaineering and Climbing instructor for the day.

Snowdon by starlight

Difficulty level: Hard
Already conquered the Snowdon challenge? Why not try try a genuinely unique experience unlike anything else? This is the Snowdon by Starlight. You’ll need to be at the peak of your powers as you climb under torchlight and starlight across the rocky, rugged landscape. On this guided trek, you’ll reach the peak just as the sun peels over, revealing incredible views across Snowdonia and the rest of Wales, England and beyond.
