Trip Grading

Gosainkunda Lakes Trek

This trip is considered to be fairly demanding. We regularly take people in their 60’s on this trek but you do have to be aware that some of the days we will walk up and down steep hills for 6-8 hours. As always on our treks there is plenty of staff and we can accommodate everyone’s trekking pace. We appreciate that in a group there will be many different speeds of walker and we don’t ever want you to feel like you are holding up a group or being held up. Having plenty of guides and porters allow for us to change itineraries and pace easily.

The Gosainkunda Lakes and Helambu regions are slightly off the main tourist trail and therefore the tea houses are quite rustic home-stay type accommodation. There is always no more than 2 people to a room and they are clean. We have to spend a couple of nights above 3500 m and it can reach below freezing. You will be comfortable with a decent sleeping bag which can be rented from us. We always allow plenty of time for acclimatisation on all our trekking expeditions.

We trek into a fairly remote part of Nepal at higher altitudes than you are probably used to. As with most things a certain degree of fitness will make this trip more enjoyable.

Travelling to Nepal

You will need a passport with 6-month’s validity and you will need to obtain a Nepalese visa. The easiest way to get the visa is to buy it on entry to Nepal with either dollars or any major currency but not Nepali Rupees. Currently the cost for a single-entry visa valid for 15/30/90 days costs US$30/50/125. You can buy a visa in advance from the Neplese embassy in your home country if they have a location there. It is more expensive than buying it on arrival in Kathmandu and it doesn’t always save you time when you arrive as it is random which queue is longer. You also have to risk sending your passport off and they may take it for several weeks. You will need to buy travel insurance for your trip which you can find out about here. You also need to visit your GP or travel health professional at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to check what vaccinations you need.

For more information about travelling safely and obtaining passports you can see more at the FCO know before you go Travel Aware Campaign.

Why don’t we use domestic flights in Nepal?

All airlines in Nepal are on the EU blacklist. This means they don’t meet international safety standards. Lost Earth Adventures is passionate about giving every one of our customers the best possible experience but we will never compromise your safety to do so. Instead of domestic flights, we use private 4x4s to drive you to the start of your trek. You may see searing vistas, traditional villages and lush rice paddies along the way.
