Pateley Bridge
Created by the medieval monks of Fountains Abbey, our Secret Lake is the best kept secret in North Yorkshire. Even locals don’t know of its existence! Hidden among magical woodland, the lake is a truly special place. Just being there fills you with tranquility as there’s not a sound to be heard.
Large and jagged prehistoric rock formations nestle within the ancient woodland on the water’s edge, perfect for rock climbing and abseiling alike. The views on the water are mesmerising, accessible only via canoeing and paddle boarding. Shooting arrows, bush crafting and sitting around an open fire toasting marshmallows brings ancient folklore to life.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn new skills, test existing skills and get closer to nature in one of the best canoeing locations in Yorkshire.
